While Belgium did manage to get a win over Azerbaijan in the Group F 2024 Euros qualifier, it wasn’t the most pristine performance, especially from Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard.
That’s according to former Belgian footballer Philippe Albert, speaking to Sud Info, who had a few things to say about the Gunners forward, who isn’t having the best time at his club of late either.
Pushed to the bench by Gabriel Martinelli, the 28-year-old only has 77 minutes of football under his belt for Arsenal this season, and actually played more than that in his appearance for Belgium, coming off after 79 minutes.
Albert was looking at the performance of Romelu Lukaku, who is still trying to find his legs after a summer of transfer saga, and the striker ‘was hardly helped’ by the Arsenal player.
The now pundit said: “I saw that Tedesco covered the latter somewhat in the press conference, but the Arsenal player often did the complete opposite of what he should have done. That is to say, turn his opponent around instead of dropping back like he almost always did.
“There’s no point in coming to get the ball at Tielemans’ level. There are enough players on the halfway line to do the dirty work. If, after hitting the post at the very start of the game, Trossard slipped into relative anonymity, he owes it only to himself.”
So far, Trossard has made three appearances for Arsenal this season, two in the Premier League for 62 minutes and 15 minutes in the Community Shield.
