Arsenal fullback Nuno Tavares is really on his way to Marseille, according to the latest reports.
Speaking to the Italian audience, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now explains that Atalanta have failed to reach a deal to sign the 22-year-old.
It’s said the Serie A side had been in negotiations for the transfer since June, with the player being followed by director Lee Congerton. The report claims contacts had intensified in the past few days and there was even an agreement in principle, with Tavares and his entourage approving the move.
However, with Atlanta pushing to have a buying option in the loan, Arsenal ‘made it clear’ they didn’t want to lose their control over the player. That’s why the deal ‘stalled’ and Marseille showed up strongly.
Di Marzio claims that in the past few hours, the French side reached an agreement with the Gunners for a dry loan, and Tavares is set to have a medical with the French club on Friday.
Meanwhile, the fullback’s contract with Arsenal continues to run until 2025, with a club option for an extra year.
