Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has suffered a ‘first-degree muscle injury’ on loan at Fiorentina and will now be assessed to determine the extent of the problem.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Uruguayan midfielder’s injury has caused an ‘emergency’ at the Italian club.
Torreira has been on loan with Fiorentina since last summer when Arsenal shipped him out after it was made clear he wasn’t a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
His good time has now come to a stuttering halt, though, after he was ‘touched hard’ during the first half clash with Juventus last night.
That saw him replaced at half-time, and morning tests have now revealed he has suffered ‘a first degree injury of the transverse muscle of the abdomen.’
Torreira has already started the rehabilitation work and will be re-evaluated in the next few days but is certain to miss Sunday’s clash with Salernitana and is unlikely to make the game with Udinese next Wednesday.
Much will then depend on the evolution of the ‘problematic’ injury to determine how much longer he will be out beyond that point.
This doesn’t affect Arsenal for the time being, of course, but we’re sure they’ll be keeping an eye on things in the hope this injury doesn’t affect the chances of a permanent exit in the summer.
