If you fail the first time, try again.
That’s a motto most people tend to live by, and that’s exactly the case of Milan, who are preparing to return to Arsenal to try and buy Lucas Torreira off them.
At least, that’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Monday, reminding their readers of last summer’s failed attempts despite the Uruguay international’s desire to see the move through.
The Italian newspaper explain Torreira, through his agent, ‘has often sent positive signals to Milan’, and would ‘appreciate’ a return to Italy, where he first made a name for himself at Sampdoria.
Milan, down their end, ‘have not stopped taking an interest’ in the defensive midfielder, and have kept a relationship with his representatives ‘alive’.
That’s because the Arsenal midfielder ‘fully reflects the needs of [Ivan] Gazidis’ project’, which is a young team that can focus on players already with international experience.
Corriere believe the Serie A side are ‘waiting for the right moment to show up in London to knock on Arsenal’s door once again’ in order to enter into talks for the player.
The price tag could be an issue, however, as €40m is a steep price for Milan, who would need to sell before matching those demands.
Two players could go in Franck Kessié and Lucas Paquetà, both subject of interest from abroad and whose sales could go a long way to funding the Lucas Torreira pot.
The strategy is there. Now they just have to execute it.
