There’s some disagreement in the Spanish media over what approach Barcelona will make regarding recruiting a central defender in the winter market.
Ronald Koeman’s side wanting to secure Eric Garcia from Manchester City receives consensus throughout media covering the Blaugrana, but it’s what to do if that signing isn’t possible which brings different opinions.
One option is for Barcelona to simply continue with what they already have, knowing they’ll then be getting Garcia next summer. Sport suggest otherwise, with the Catalan newspaper presenting several options including Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi.
With a contract expiring at the end of the current season it’s assumed this would be a cheap deal to pull off, and Sport state Mustafi is ‘not going through his best moment’ with the Gunners.
Picking up just 44 minutes of Premier League action this season, with a further 151 minutes in the Europa League, Mustafi hasn’t been central to Mikel Arteta’s plans, although that’s partly down to fitness issues.
Sport believe Arsenal ‘would release’ the player, which sounds like they’re of the opinion he could move for free in January given his contract expires in June.
