Admitting his club want Sokratis Papastathopolous from Arsenal, Aurelio De Laurentiis has put the Gunners in an interesting situation.
That’s because the Serie A side only want the Greek if he gets released from the London club on a free.
The player has allegedly been working to get that done, but hasn’t managed it just yet.
Local newspaper Corriere del Mezzogiorno have a bit more on all this in their Friday edition, revealing there have been ‘frequent contacts’ between Sokratis and both Gennaro Gattuso and De Laurentiis ‘in the last few days’.
It’s said the Greece international ‘has a very rich proposal’ from Qatar, but ‘he prefers Napoli with whom he already has a general agreement for a salary of €2.5m/season’.
It’s reiterated the Serie A side ‘wants to take him on a free transfer’ and they are ‘waiting for the defender to free himself’.
As things stand, Sokratis’ contract with Arsenal expires in June 2021.
