The big rumours regarding the future of Lucas Torreira that you may have seen this month only started because the player and his father decided to talk about his love for Boca Juniors.
They both claimed the midfielder could sign for the Argentine side, as long as the club can find a deal with Arsenal at the end of the season.
While their intention might be one thing, the problem in all this is that Torreira’s situation isn’t that simple.
Besides being currently on a loan spell at Atletico Madrid, the midfielder has a contract with the Gunners running until 2023.
Having already said a lot, the player’s father now appears to be backtracking on his comments a bit, perhaps feeling like he might have said too much, because a more recent interview with Directv Sports, taking place last night, sees him claim a transfer to Boca Juniors this summer isn’t all that certain despite the desire being there.
“We are the ones who are breaking the coconuts, we know that for Boca it’s complicated. I think that we generate an inconvenience for Boca because I don’t know if the club will be able to come for him,” Ricardo Torreira told Directv (via TNT Sports).
“We came to look for Boca, we did not come for the millions. There was still no news about the possibility of Lucas going to Boca. Lucas’s desire to go to Boca isn’t from now, it comes from years ago.”
Torreira’s dad also revealed the name of two Brazilian clubs who’ve been after the player.
“Lucas dreams of playing at Boca Juniors and making a couple of laps in La Bombonera. Only a madman like my son would want to leave Europe to return to South America. Last year, Lucas stayed in Spain by request from his mother. Interested teams have emerged from Brazil such as Flamengo and Gremio”.
