Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut has insisted they are still working on a potential move from Arsenal to Fenerbahce, and the ‘process’ is still ongoing.
As you’ll be aware by now, Ozil is widely expected to leave Arsenal this month, having been left out of their squads for the Premier League and Europa League since the beginning of the season.
His contract at the club expires next summer, but both parties are keen to end their relationship this month if they can do so.
Fenerbahce are keen to make that happen and bring the player to the club, and several reports over the last two weeks have made it clear they are working on a deal.
First, both Fener and Ozil need to find an agreement with Arsenal, with the finances of the whole situation a complicated mess to say the least.
That is likely to prove a tricky process; something Sogut has alluded to in his latest comments about Ozil’s future.
“Mesut Ozil can now meet with any club he wants, sign a contract. Whatever is best for Mesut,” he told BEIN, relayed by Asist Analiz.
“Mesut only lacks match fitness. There is no training lacking. Mesut is fit for now.
“Everyone knows that Mesut is from Fenerbahce. He announced it yesterday. Mesut is not just a football player. Mesut is Fenerbahce.”
“He always said that if he came to Turkey, he would only play for Fenerbahce.
“I think it is very important that Mesut comes not only as a footballer but also as a lover of Fenerbahce.”
“There is a process at the moment. We can’t say it’s over until we’ve signed it in the process. I hope so.”
