With Mathieu Debuchy probably on his way out, Carl Jenkinson injured for now and only Hector Bellerin really to pick from, it makes sense for Arsenal to be after a right-back.
There haven’t been many stories linking players in that position to the Premier League club, until now.
On Thursday, L’Equipe dropped a mini-bombshell for their French readers as they reported that Arsène Wenger and Arsenal had made Lille’s Djibril Sidibé their top priority.
The 23-year-old right-back, who spent the vast majority of last season on the left hand side of Lille’s defence (out of necessity), has been reported as very close to a move Monaco, with Rony Lopes going the other way on loan.
However, Arsenal’s arrival in the dossier has scuppered these plans, as the Premier League club have already entered discussions with the player’s entourage.
While this looks bleak for Monaco, L’Equipe don’t write them off just yet, merely stating the Ligue 1 side are waiting for news on the player’s decision, with whom they are still in constant contact with.
Lille had reportedly accepted a £13m bid for the player from Monaco, meaning Arsenal will need to bid the same (if not more to take into account Rony Lopes) to get their man.
