Georginio Wijnaldum was a bright-spark of Newcastle United’s poor season, one which ultimately ended up in relegation.
Naturally, there followed many transfer rumours about Wijnaldum, who is said to be keen to leave the club.
Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked over the past 24 hours or so, with a story which started as just interest escalating very quickly.
Newcastle apparently want £25m from Tottenham for the Dutch midfielder, with AS Roma and Everton also said to be interested in a potential transfer. The Daily Mail said Wijnaldum fancied a move to London, giving preference to Tottenham, and that’s helped the rumours along.
On Thursday afternoon Wijnaldum tweeted an emoticon of what we think is a frustrated face. He may be angry at the rumours, or the rumours may be true and his anger is at the asking price… who knows.
But Wijnaldum deleted the tweet in under a couple of minutes, not before enough people had seen it to underline it actually happened.
All fun and games in the transfer window.
