Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard has been warned that a loan move to Arsenal may not be the wisest choice for him.
Odegaard has been linked with a move to the Emirates this week after voicing his displeasure over a lack of playing time under Zinedine Zidane.
He’s keen to head out on loan to get regular playing time elsewhere and is believed to have contacted Real Sociedad, where he spent last season and was supposed to remain this yea before Madrid cancelled the deal, about a potential return.
Arsenal are among his other suitors, though, and it’s been claimed in Spain today that they are very close to getting a deal over the line.
They’ve reportedly been on the hunt for a creative midfielder this month and have spare cash after getting both Mesut Ozil and defender Sokratis off the wage bill.
A move for Odegaard makes sense, then, although TV 2’s expert Simen Stamsø Møller doesn’t believe it’s the right transfer for the player.
“Ødegaard creates chances, and Arsenal lack the creative player in midfield,” DT report him saying.
“But I have to say that I’m a little skeptical. Then I think about going to the Premier League in the middle of a season. A new team in a new league.
“I think Ødegaard fits somewhat better in a Spanish club, whether it is Real Sociedad or Sevilla.
“I feel it would be the right thing to do now, even if it would have been great to see him in the Premier League.”
