Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney joined Real Sociedad on a loan deal last summer and recent claims in the UK stated the north London club wanted £20m to permanently cut ties with him.
Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo reported the La Liga side won’t pay that fee for the left-back. It was also said they don’t have an option or obligation to make his stay permanent.
This has been dismissed by Wednesday’s AS, who state La Real negotiated a €15m purchase option with Arsenal.
The newspaper points this out when explaining that the 26-year-old and André Silva [on loan from RB Leipzig] haven’t ‘decided on their future’. The latter’s buying option is also set at €15m.
AS say the duo aren’t clear whether they’ll continue with the San Sebastian club beyond this season. The ‘only certainty’ for now is that they’ll return to their parent clubs in the summer because Real Sociedad ‘have no intention of paying’ €15m each to buy them.
The Scotland international’s continuity hasn’t been completely ruled out since a decision hasn’t been made yet. Real Sociedad are waiting to see how the Arsenal man performs until the end of the season before making a final decision.
Tierney picked up two injuries this season, resulting in 20 appearances so far for La Real. It’s claimed he hasn’t met expectations and hasn’t done enough for them to consider extending his stay.
Therefore, Tierney’s ‘continuity is up in the air’ as of now.
