Arsenal ‘love’ Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and may be presented with an opportunity to sign him this summer as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Ghanaian midfielder for several weeks, with his father even claiming they were in talks and could activate his €50m release clause.
His agents quickly dismissed that, but it has became clear that he is a player that Arsenal are interested in this summer.
Atlético are actively trying to get the midfielder signed to a new deal with an improved release clause but, AS claim they may be forced to sell anyway if they end up missing out on the Champions League.
The newspaper states that the club need to qualify for the competition if they are to ‘avoid going through a complicated economic situation.’
It’s explained that the club’s finances are dependant on qualification each year, with the Europa League not even coming close in terms of income.
If the Spanish season is voided, and the current standings declared final, then Atlético would miss out, and that would be ‘a big problem’.
So much so that the club would be forced to sell one of their star men, Partey among them, to make up the difference.
His release clause of €50m would ‘cover the economic gap’ and Arsenal have made it clear they want him this summer.
They are not the only ones, though, with PSG also hovering.
