Arsenal are also ‘involved’ in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria with his contract set to expire in the summer.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say the Gunners are part of the pack chasing the Switzerland star’s signature.
Zakaria is out of contract with the German club in the summer, meaning he is free to enter negotiations regarding a pre-contract agreement this month with any club he likes.
Borussia are keen to avoid that, and with it clear the player ‘will not extend his expiring contract’, they are now keen to sell him this month to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
Likewise, Arsenal, where it is believed that Mikel Arteta would like to add to is options in midfield if he can.
It seems they remain keen, with FT explaining that there is a list of clubs ‘already at the ready’ to scoop up Zakaria on a free in the summer.
That includes Arsenal, who, alongside Juventus, Barcelona, Manchester City and Dortmund, are ‘involved’ in the race for his signature.
They offer no information as to how involved the Gunners are, so it’s unclear whether they’ve held talks with the player or his representatives, but it’s hard to imagine there hasn’t been some sort of contact.
Either way, it seems they’re in with a shot, and if the midfielder doesn’t move this month, the Emirates remains a possible destination on a free transfer in the summer.
