Arsenal have ‘intensified’ their interest in Benfica full-back Alex Grimaldo this week, with a €7m offer expected for him.
That’s according to Jornal do Noticias, who say that figure would be enough to convince the Portuguese club into a sale.
The newspaper reports that Arsenal have shown an increased interest in the Spanish full-back this week as they continue their summer rebuild for Mikel Arteta.
They believe that the Gunners are set to make an offer of €7m sooner rather than later, and such a deal ‘pleases’ Benfica.
They’d be more than happy to sell for that figure, and any deal happening would then depend on the player accepting the move.
Indeed, they have already eyed up a replacement for him in Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, who is set to leave the German club as he’s in the final year of his deal.
It’s the same situation for Grimaldo, who is also in the final year of his deal at Benfica and ‘does not want to renew’.
That opens up the door for Arsenal to get their man, and it seems Benfica are very much expecting a bid to arrive this week.
