Following murmurs Unai Emery made a late attempt to sign Fabinho from AS Monaco, it appears the new Arsenal manager is trying to bolster the Gunners’ midfield this summer.

Having missed out on the Brazilian who signed for Liverpool on Monday night, the Spaniard has turned to another target, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian website, in one of their many exclusives, claim that Arsenal have decided to try and sign Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, also a target for Napoli should Jorginho decide to leave for Manchester City.

TuttoMercatoWeb state ‘first contacts’ are already underway, although they don’t mention between who, and there’s a desire to reach ‘an agreement’ in the coming weeks.

Coming off a very good season with Sampdoria, the Uruguay international is expected to take part in the World Cup in Russia, which could either delay proceedings a bit or speed them up depending on how the Serie A side want to play it out.

A good tournament could see the 22-year-old’s stock rise even more should they choose to be patient, meaning other clubs could come knocking.

Don’t get too excited just yet, though, Arsenal fans. We’d wait for more to come out on this first.
