Arsenal have ‘intensified their endeavours’ to sign Joshua Kimmich and held ‘concrete talks’ with him in the last few days.

That’s according to Sky Germany and journalist Florian Plettenberg, who report that Arsenal would like to sign Kimmich on a free transfer in the summer.

According to Sky’s information, Arsenal see the German midfielder as a replacement for Jorginho, who appears set to leave on a free transfer in the summer. The Gunners consider Kimmich as a ‘top class and experienced’ alternative to him.

Plettenberg adds a little more to the mix, stating that Arsenal are one of the clubs who have a concrete interest in the midfielder and have held talks with him.

They would like to sign him on a free in the summer and he would be the replacement for Jorginho in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

He adds that Kimmich has received two written offers from abroad and one is from the Premier League but does not state whether it is from Arsenal.

It is, however, these offers which are making him hesitate to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich. They’ve offered him a deal until 2028 worth €20-22m a year.

He’s informed Bayern of the offers made to him and talks with the German giants are ongoing. They aren’t going to go higher than what’s been offered, though, and could even reduce the figures involved.

Sky back this up, stating that Kimmich and Bayern’s leadership are in positive and regular talks and the midfielder is insistent that an agreement with Bayern is still possible. The fact they withdrew an offer this week has made little difference to that. Bayern are also insisting that they want to keep him.

This, then, feels like a move from an agent dropping Arsenal’s name and their apparent concrete interest in the hope of getting Bayern back to the table.

Either way, until that contract with the Bundesliga leaders is signed, expect to see plenty more of Arsenal and Kimmich stories.
