A few days ago, Deporte Valenciano reported Arsenal are interested in signing Turkish midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup.
The former Arsenal player has two years left on his contract, and it was reported Besiktas are likely to demand €20m for him.
However, reports in the Turkish media suggest a different story. Arsenal, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund had their own meetings with Ozyakup, but the player wants to stay at the club for another year, reports Milliyet.
He said: “The offers may come, but I don’t want to go. I want to stay at Besiktas for another year, and contribute to the Champions League.”
The 23-year-old had 10 goals and 8 assists to his name in 41 games last season, and it remains to be seen if Arsenal are genuinely interested in bringing him back to the Emirates.
With this story coming from Turkey, it’s likely to be pro-Besiktas and it’s a nice story for them to believe a player turned down Arsenal, Milan and Dortmund.
