AC Milan have joined Arsenal in the chase for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
On April 7th, Sport Mediaset reported the Serie A side are ‘serious’ about the 26-year-old and have initiated contact with his camp.
It was also explained the Spain international’s entourage informed Stefano Pioli’s side that the Gunners have made an offer for the attacking midfielder.
Asensio’s current deal expires in 2023 and is demanding a pay rise to sign a new deal at the Bernabéu. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unwilling to meet his demands and want to tie him down to a new contract by offering the same salary.
Another report from Sport Mediaset explain the Rossoneri are keen to sign Lille’s Renato Sanches. He would gladly arrive at the San Siro in the summer, but a possible transfer is made difficult due to the midfielder’s demands.
The report then states the situation is ‘not very different’ with Asensio. The ex-Mallorca man does not mind relaunching his career at the Italian club, where he ‘could enhance the undoubted qualities’.
However, his salary demands are posing a ‘problem’ for the Italian club. In addition to this, ‘there is Arsenal’.
Sport Mediaset say Mikel Arteta’s side may not be the team ‘designed’ for Asensio but are ‘capable of guaranteeing’ him a salary of €7m per year. This is the figure that the player ‘would like’ but is a lot for Milan.
It’s made clear the negotiations have not started with Real Madrid, who are asking around €25m to let go of the Spaniard.
Milan chief Paolo Maldini will work to convince Asensio, to try to overcome competition from Arsenal. Sport Mediaset states: ‘A complicated mission that Milan will try to make possible.’
