Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with Genoa Midfielder Diego Laxalt, according to claims in the Italian media. Only yesterday we covered comments made by the Uruguayan’s agent, who claimed there’d be Chelsea interest in the player.
TMW have today confirmed Arsenal have joined the race for Laxalt as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his squad. Laxalt only joined Genoa in the summer, and his impressive form has attracted other clubs from Serie A, along with Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea. Fiorentina are also reported to be interested in the South American.
Yesterday we reported on comments his agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito made to the Italian media when he revealed Chelsea are one of those clubs keen on the 23-year-old, and that Antonio Conte knows the player well from his time in Italy.
The player’s agent said the Chelsea boss knows what a player like Laxalt could bring to his team, and therefore D’Ippolito could look to move his client to England.
Laxalt was previously interesting Leicester City in the summer according to the player’s agent, but an offer never came in from the Premier League champions.
Arsenal being pulled into the story makes everything a little more interesting. The London rivalry between Wenger and Conte could boost the story. But right now, in our opinion, that’s all it is… a story.
