Arsenal could turn to AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu this summer if they fail to keep Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard at the club.
That’s according to Milan Live, who say the Gunners are one of three options for the Turkish midfielder should he leave Milan this summer.
They explain that Calhanoglu’s contract at the San Siro expires in the summer, and so far, there has been no movement on a new deal, something which is considered a ‘problem’ for the Serie A side.
The lack of movement in negotiations has seen Paolo Maldini put ‘everything on stand-by’ in order to avoid distractions for the squad.
Milan’s last proposal was a long-term renewal worth €4m per year, but Calhanoglu’s agent is aiming high and wants €5m per year with bonuses, a stalemate that has not yet been ‘unlocked’.
The midfielder’s priority is to find an agreement with Milan as he feels like he is at the centre of the project and does not intend to leave the team who ‘launched him into football’.
However, with no agreement in place, he will be soon be forced to look around, and there are three clubs vying for his signature.
One of those is Arsenal, who are ‘ready to revolutionise’ the squad this summer after a disappointing season so far.
If they fail to keep hold of on-loan midfielders Odegaard and Ceballos, which is very likely given reports Zidane wants the former back and the latter is keen to go back to Spain, they could ‘seriously turn’ to Calhanoglu.
Whether he’d be interested in the move to Arsenal isn’t mentioned, while there’s no indication of whether there’s been contact with his agent or anything of that nature.
He’s simply a name to keep an eye on ahead of the summer at this stage, with a move dependant on what happens with his contract at Milan first.
