The William Saliba saga could have dragged on throughout the January window, but it looks like it’s coming to a quick end.
According to claims from Nice-Matin on Monday morning, the defender is set to join Nice on loan from Arsenal until the end of the current season. It’s a dry loan, meaning there’ll be no option for the French club to then take the player on a permanent deal, such a move would have to be negotiated at a later date.
Nice-Matin are presenting this move as fact, and they report that Sainte-Etienne, Saliba’s former club, and Marseille have been beaten to the Arsenal player.
Having been looking for a central defender, following injury to Dante, Nice will be happy to secure a player who is highly rated in France. There’s been some surprise regarding his failure to find any prominence with the Gunners, and now Saliba will have a chance to show his talent again.
Earlier reports suggested Nice were looking for an experienced option, and it’s not clear whether they’ve changed their mind or if Saliba is just the first recruit.
