Arsenal face PSG in Paris on Tuesday night, so that means the London club are getting a lot of coverage in the French media.
French newspaper L’Equipe have a feature in their Monday edition about how happy Arsenal’s shareholders will be with Wenger and the way he’s helped build the club.
Sure, some fans aren’t happy with what they perceive to be a lack of spending, but on the spreadsheet, Arsenal are champions.
It’s pointed out that the Emirates is the biggest income generating ground in European football. L’Equipe say the ground brings in €132m a season, more than even Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.
Arsenal’s London rivals Tottenham only bring in €54.2m per season from their ground, something they’ll be looking to improve significantly with their redevelopment.
That all goes to helping Arsenal make a profit off the pitch, which has helped the club’s share price remain strong as many other football clubs have faced struggles down the years.
Such is Arsenal’s success in this regard, L’Equipe say Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas sees the club as a blueprint for the way forward in modern football. Surely Wenger and those in charge at Arsenal would be happy to share a few secrets with Aulas, in return for a favourable transfer relationship… it’s worth a try!
