Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is a possible target for Napoli, should they end up losing out to the Gunners in the race for Gabriel Magalhães.
That’s according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, who reports that the German defender is part of a Plan B for the Italians.
Napoli have been chasing Gabriel’s signature all summer and have already negotiated a deal with his club Lille, from whom they signed Victor Osimhen earlier in the window.
However, a deal for the Brazilian is dependant upon the sale of Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City but is yet to see a transfer happen as the two clubs negotiate over Napoli’s asking price.
In the interim, Arsenal have emerged as suitors for Gabriel, with reports in both England and France indicating that he is close to completing the move.
Should that happen, Napoli would miss out on one of their prime targets, and Venerato says this would see them turn to a defender currently residing at the Emirates.
“Until September 5th, the French want to wait for the Azzurri, the price of the card is around 25 million euro, everything could jump if the boy accepts another team,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Area Napoli.
“If Gabriel fades? At that point Napoli will turn to a plan B, in addition to Sokratis, there is also talk of Mustafi, also coming out of Arsenal.
“Another name, an old scouting obsession would be Todibo of Barcelona.”
