Over the summer, Arsenal needed a place to send Marquinhos, their young winger, so he could get some game time, which Nantes happily provided.
The Ligue 1 side were seemingly excited at the idea of getting a talented Brazilian forward for the season, in hope he could serve them in their bid to be competitive in France’s top-tier.
That hasn’t been the case, however, as the Arsenal player has only made seven appearances to date for them in the league, and simply ‘hasn’t convinced’, according to L’Equipe.
With that in mind, and following suggestions it could happen, the young Brazilian’s deal with Nantes is ‘on the verge’ of being broken up, with him set to head back to London and regroup with the Gunners.
What happens beyond that will depend entirely on what Mikel Arteta’s staff have in mind for him once he returns, with game time in the reserves team or a new loan the likeliest outcomes.
The 20-year-old was signed by Arsenal in 2022 from São Paulo, and spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Norwich City, where he made 11 appearances, scored one goal and assisted another.
