On Monday, we brought you the latest from Italy regarding Arsenal’s interest in Monchi, and concurring claims suggested the Gunners were getting closer to getting their man.
Leggo in Italy stated the Spanish director of football had already said yes to the London club, who needed to pay a €3m (or €2m depending on reports) fee to pry him away from AS Roma.
On Tuesday, TuttoMercatoWeb have their own update on the matter, claiming Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners are said to have offered the former Sevilla man a ‘three-year contract’ with ‘very high numbers’ to try and convince him to move to the Emirates.
Their figure for the release clause is also €3m, but as we said in the last article, if Arsenal really want Monchi as their next director of football, we doubt they will care if the fee is €2m or €3m.
As things stand, the 50-year-old has yet to make his mind up regarding his future, and is ‘considering’ what he should do at the end of the season, especially if Eusebio di Francesco is shown the door.
Does he stay and recommend a new manager or does he cut ties and try his luck elsewhere?
Arsenal will be hoping for the latter.
