José Mourinho would be on Arsenal’s list of replacements for Unai Emery should the Gunners look to replace the under-fire manager.
Emery is facing criticism at the Emirates, with the Gunners currently fifth in the table and four points outside the top four despite significant investment in the summer.
With his contract expiring in the summer there have been suggestions that Arsenal could look to replace Emery at the end of the season, or potentially before that should performances take a nosedive.
And as far as El Chiringuito (relayed by Sport) are concerned, Arsenal would have Mourinho in mind to replace Emery in that eventuality.
They say he would be on their shortlist of candidates for the job and that he would be interested in the position should it become available.
Mourinho would ‘welcome’ a return to the Premier League and the chance to win titles with a third club from the league.
He would ‘consider’ Arsenal as he believes the English league is one where he can develop his style as a coach and would prefer to return to England ahead of other options, such as the Bundesliga.
Whether that Arsenal offer would ever arrive, though, seems unlikely. Not only is Mourinho an old enemy, but he also does not fit into the mould of manager Arsenal want. He certainly doesn’t play the style of football they would demand.
Instead, this feels like El Chiringuito looking at which of the current big six who aren’t Manchester United or Chelsea are in ‘crisis’ and linking Mourinho to them. Last time around it was Tottenham, and now, it’s Arsenal’s turn.
