In early February, just as the transfer window had finally closed, SportBild geared everyone up for the next market by naming a list of potential Bundesliga exits.
The German magazine’s article has formed the basis for countless English newspaper rumours since, and here’s another about to have take-off again: Max Meyer to Arsenal.
SportBild named Arsenal rather than Tottenham as the English club most keen, with Barcelona thrown into the picture for good measure.
Meyer’s Schalke contract expires in June, and Bild report he’s rejected the German club’s second renewal offer.
That of course makes a free transfer more likely, and Arsenal can start talks with the player immediately should they so wish.
Schalke have lost a string of top players on free transfers in recent windows.
Leon Goretzka is set to join Bayern Munich, Joel Matip moved to Liverpool, and Sead Kolasinac made the journey to Arsenal.
