Bayer Leverkusen have seen an attempt to sign Arsenal defender Hector Bellerín dismissed as they cannot afford his wage demands.
That’s what Fussball Transfers report today, claiming that the Spaniard is open to moving away from the Emirates this summer.
The website explains Leverkusen are keen to improve their right-back options and have been scouring the market for potential additions.
That saw them make an approach to Bellerín, who has been tipped to leave Arsenal during this transfer window.
The German side got in contact with the Spaniard about a move and ‘asked’ whether he would be interested in the transfer.
However, they ‘picked up a rejection’ from the Arsenal right-back because they could not meet his ‘salary wishes’, this despite the player making it clear that he is ‘open to a change’.
That basically put an end to any hopes Leverkusen had, with them instead turning their attention to other options such as Djibril Sidibé, Serge Aurier, Max Aarons and Sergiño Dest.
Bellerín, meanwhile, is left to see if any better offers come in.
A recent report in England claimed that PSG were keen on his signature and had made a €28m bid to Arsenal, while also naming Juventus and Bayern Munich as suitors.
None of those moves have happened as yet, but with big names like that associated, it’s easy to see why a move to Leverkusen was probably never going to happen.
