Arsenal and Chelsea have both been in touch with director of Luis Campos, who has already received a €20m-a-year offer from Saudi Arabia.
That’s according to Le Parisien, who report that the director of football has not extended his contract with Paris Saint Germain as yet.
The newspaper explains that PSG have been negotiating with their director to extend his current deal, which is set to expire in the summer.
The various parties are yet to agree on a deal, though, with Campos considering the financial proposal made to him as ‘insufficient’.
There is also the issue of Saudi Arabia, who have offered the 60-year-old ‘a contract made of solid gold’ worth €200m, €20m per year over ten years, to ‘structure and organise the future selection’ as he sees fit with the aim of making the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2034. That is set to be held in Saudi Arabia.
He would be accountable to the president of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser bin Hassan bin Mohammed al-Misehal, as well as to the Minister of Sports, Prince Abdelaziz bin Turki al-Fayçal, a close friend of Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of the country.
He needs to given an answer before December 31st, 2025, but is yet to sign as he’s given priority to PSG. Negotiations with the French giants are at a standstill, though.
They’re yet to make a concrete proposal to Campos and that’s opened the door to other suitors such as Saudi Arabia. The Premier League is also lurking, as Arsenal and Chelsea have both contacted his entourage. They’ve both been ‘courting him for a long time’.
Arsenal, of course, are yet to replace Edu in the director of football role while Chelsea are still working on their structure above Enzo Maresca.
At the moment everything indicates that he will remain in Paris, but he has not ruled out making a change and Arsenal and Chelsea are very much in the mix.
