It is an ‘open secret’ that Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars would like to join Arsenal or Barcelona in the future.
That’s according to chief De Telegraaf football writer Valentijn Driessen, who was criticising the Ajax chief following the blunder regarding Sebastien Haller.
Overmars has earned himself a growing reputation in the game in recent years, with his ability to identify talent and sell it for a massive profit proving extremely beneficial to Ajax.
That talent has obviously seen him named as a possible target for several bigger sides in Europe, with clubs consistently looking to make their transfer business more productive.
Overmars former clubs Arsenal and Barcelona have both been linked with making moves in the past, with it felt he could be an ideal appointment for either club.
That is yet to happen, of course, but according to Driessen, it is an open secret that he would welcome a return to either club.
“At Ajax, everything in terms of transfers ends up on the plate of director of football affairs Marc Overmars,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying.
“He wants nothing more than to be the spider in the web that guards all the lines. Delegation is not his forte, but the Haller affair proves that a “right hand” is harmless.
“It is an open secret that he does not reject a new challenge at a major foreign top club or with his former employers FC Barcelona and Arsenal.
“He has been associated with those two clubs before.”
