As West Ham United’s interest in Gonzalo Montiel continues to be covered by the Argentine media, outlet El Intransigente comes up with some good news for River Plate fans today.
They write that the player’s release clause could make him the most expensive fullback the club has ever sold, in case it’s triggered this summer.
El Intransigente states Montiel has a release clause of US$15m, and that goes up to US$20m in the last ten days of the transfer window.
So even though manager Marcelo Gallardo doesn’t want to lose the player, his sale would still be a huge profit for the club’s finances.
El Intransigente says that no offers for Montiel have been made so far, as West Ham are still to make any moves for the fullback. Besides the Hammers, Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be in the race for him.
The biggest problem for his move to Europe, however, is the lack of an EU passport. That could definitely harm his chances of joining a Premier League club.
