On Thursday, reports emerged saying Everton have made a bid of €7m for the signing of River Plate fullback Gonzalo Montiel.
But Olé, the biggest sports outlet in Argentina, was quick to come up and dismiss those claims.
A story on their website says that people close to the player have denied any kind of offer made by the Toffees.
Montiel is actually followed by other European clubs. Olé recalls that Manuel Lanzini recently said West Ham United have been following him.
The outlet adds that Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Torino and AS Roma are other clubs who’ve been keeping an eye on the player.
Since Montiel’s contract with River Plate expires next year, the Argentine side are said to be working on his renewal, so they don’t run the risk of losing him for free.
Everton have actually been linked to another River Plate plate, midfielder Nicolas De La Cruz. But there haven’t been big updates on this chase this week, despite him saying he ‘likes English football a lot’.
