Sergio Aguero has missed many minutes for the Argentine national team due to injuries in the past few years. It’s been rare to see the player arriving at the country in a good physical condition, and that’s why he’s played only one entire game for them in 2016.

The Manchester City star gave an interview which made Olé’s front page on Monday, and the local journalists questioned him about it.

CapturarWhen asked when was the last time he presented himself to the national team in good condition, Aguero said: “Maybe when I was really well, was at the Copa America in Chile. Then I felt very well and Tata decided that I’d start against Paraguay and I luckily did good. The team had also been very good. That’s why we reached the final.”

Questioned if his current injury has something to do with the other one suffered in the last FIFA date, Aguero denied: “No, no. This injury happened now at City, during the Champions League match against Celtic: it was hard, it had rained, the grass was high and muddy, and since then I’ve been having a bit of an overload. I’ve recovered well for two days, they I played against Tottenham. And travelled.”

The striker claimed that the player’s will to be on the pitch may spoil the recover from these injuries: “Sometimes the matter of travelling: resting, the schedule changes, it won’t help… But I’m pretty good. I wanted to play against Peru, to be available, and I endured everything I could.

“When you’re at the national team team you always want to take part, but the last time, for wanting to continue, I ended up injured against Ecuador. Sometimes you think: “Why didn’t I stop?”.

“Because then I’m out for a month and a half and I miss six or seven games for City. But when they call you for the national team, you want to play at any cost. That’s how it is.”

But he says he’s now ready for Paraguay: “I’m much better. After the Peru game I had two days to make the recovery and I did a little bit of football today. I’m quite well.

“Luckily the pain I had before Peru went away, it was on the adductor, and certainly to protect the adductor I overloaded the calf a little. I’m better: we did studies, they were good and I’m trying to get as fresh as possible for Tuesday.”

So the journalists asked if he sees himself out of the next game: “No. You always want to play in the national team team and try to do the best. For now I feel good physically, within five minutes of the second half against Peru I began to feel the tiredness on the calf, Patón noticed and took me out. But I’m quite well now: you get physical fitness playing, not training. Bauza has the decision: I’ll be available for Tuesday.”
