Genk striker Paul Onuachu ‘wouldn’t be out of place’ at West Ham United, should they ever make a move for him.
That’s according to former Genk striker Wesley Sonck, who believes it is ‘criminal’ that the striker still finds himself playing in Belgium.
Onuachu was the star of the show for Genk last season, with 35 goals and five assists in 41 games in all competitions, including 29 goals in 33 games in the Jupiler Pro League.
It saw him heavily linked with a move elsewhere, with several Premier League clubs thought to be keeping an eye on him.
West Ham were linked on several occasions, with David Moyes keen to add a striker to his squad to ease the burden on Michail Antonio.
A move never happened, but they have continued to be linked, with reports stating that the Hammers were still looking at him and the player was keen on playing in London.
Sonck would like to see that happen and believes the striker would not be out of place at the London Stadium.
“I think it’s criminal that Onuachu is still playing in Belgium,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“A boy like me, of 1 meter 75, who can score a goal: you can find 1,000 of them in Europe, so to speak. But like Onuachu, with his 2 meter 1, there aren’t five like him. Certain teams will be able to use Onuachu.
“Such as West Ham, against whom Genk, in a lesser period, by the way, played: let’s be honest, Onuachu wouldn’t be out of place there, would he?
“Moreover, he is already 27, while I was 23 when I won. He is in the best period of his life. But a Golden Shoe doesn’t really open doors, I think.
“Abroad, all that is of little importance. The best player in Spain or Germany, okay. But the one from Belgium… They’re not waiting for that abroad.”
