Turkish newspaper Takvim report Fenerbahce are set to rival Besiktas for the signature of Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen as they want to secure the Belgian on a free transfer once his contract with Jose Mourinho’s side expires.
The 33 year old isn’t thought to be renewing his contract with Spurs and Takvim report newly appointed Fenerbahce sporting director Emre Belozoglu sees him as the perfect candidate to solve Fener’s defensive issues.
Previous reports in the Turkish press indicated Besiktas are also interested in signing the player but now Fenerbahce have also joined the race.
Fener are set to offer a lucrative package to convince the former Ajax player to join the club, as they want to beat their arch rivals.
Vertonghen has made 27 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
However, since the re-start the Belgium has hardly figured for Mourinho and he now looks to be in the final weeks of his time with the London side.
