Over the past week or so, there has been a little story trying to break through among the rest that Tottenham are interested in Pierluigi Gollini.
The goalkeeper, who used to play at Aston Villa, is one of the first names on the team sheet at Atalanta, and it was believed that Spurs could turn to him to ‘cut costs’ should Hugo Lloris ask for too much when it comes to discussing the Frenchman’s renewal.
A fee of around €20m was reported as sufficient to convince the Serie A side, but even if they do, the Premier League club would have to persuade Gollini as well.
And since he hasn’t shown any desire to move just yet, that might be a bit tough.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday, the 25-year-old was directly asked about the interest from both Milan and Tottenham in his services.
He said: “Other than the fact [the market] will be very influenced by the current situation, I have never thought about it, let alone now: it would be a lack of respect to Atalanta and Bergamo. Being appreciated is a pleasure, but it does not trigger certain feelings with me.
“I feel very close to the Atalanta family, and even more to Bergamo right now. I don’t choose between Italy and England: I choose Bergamo. It is the right thing and the one I feel.”
To us, that sounds like Gollini has absolutely no intention of returning to England in the near future, suggesting it would take a lot from Tottenham’s end to convince him.
