Before they were throw into the whole Darwin Nuñez mess, Manchester United were reportedly very interested in Victor Osimhen.
Many see the Nigeria international as ideal for the Premier League, combining strength, speed and very good technical ability in front of goal, which would make him a sensible target for the Red Devils.
After all, Manchester United need more players able to score goals since Edinson Cavani will be leaving on a free and Anthony Martial isn’t exactly in favour at Old Trafford these days.
A new striker is expected in the coming months, but his name has yet to emerge, which is why Osimhen’s name has circulated a lot in the past.
That has died down of late, but that doesn’t mean clubs have forgotten about him, with the player himself unsure what the future holds for him.
What is clear, at least from the Italian press, is that Napoli would ask for a fee of around €100m for their star man, and Nuñez’s move to Liverpool will not help bring that down.
Osimhen, after scoring four goals against in their 10-0 win over São Tomé and Príncipe, was asked about whether he could swap clubs in the summer.
He said, relayed by Afrique Sports: “There are rumours that are circulating, but anything can happen this summer. First, however, I need to return to my family to relax and refresh myself.”
That doesn’t sound like a man 100% determined to staying in Naples, which could be good news for Manchester United if that is the man Erik ten Hag wants to build his attack around going forward.
Gazzetta dello Sport also cover the comments, and point out Manchester United are a ‘strong name’ in the chase.
