El Confidencial have pondered why Real Madrid bothered re-signing Alvaro Morata from Juventus. Morata was getting on fine in Turin and has played a back-up role at Real Madrid this season, as he was always likely to do.
It’s explained that Zinedine Zidane doesn’t ‘fully trust’ Morata, and the ‘dictatorship’ of the BBC (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano) does the rest.
Chelsea attempted to sign Morata last summer, something the Spanish striker has spoken about on more than once occasion. El Confidencial claim Antonio Conte remains keen and won’t shy away from making a second attempt to sign the player.
Morata’s hopes of leading the line for Spain at World Cup 2018 pretty much depend on getting regular footballer and playing as protagonist, and Conte may be able to offer that at Chelsea.
As for the question of why Madrid used their Morata buyback clause, that’ll probably be answered by the fee Chelsea, or a rival for the transfer, pay.
