Antonio Conte has made an instant impact on his arrival to Chelsea. The London club find themselves at the top of the Premier League table, and much of the credit goes to Conte, who made a tactical change after their defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool.
Chelsea are now playing three at the back, and have kept six consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League.
Conte has been speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, and was asked about playing a three man defence.
He said: “My choice of formation was 4-2-4. I wanted to repeat the same script of Bari, Siena and the first time at Juventus. Then we switched to 3-5-2 and finally we landed to 3-4-3 because it is the best formation for this team.
“The ideas are the basis of our work, but then you have to take into account the characteristics of the players.”
Asked about Chelsea’s chances of winning the Premier League this season, Conte insists there are at least six teams fighting for the title, and it’s certainly not easy.
He added: “It will not be easy. In the race for the title, there are six teams: a team that’s going to win, the other three will be in the Champions League, the last two in the Europa League.
“This season of the Premier League is perhaps the most difficult ever. We must deal with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United.”
Chelsea face Tottenham next in the Premier League match, but have the advantage of having no midweek games unlike Spurs.
