Portuguese side Sporting announced on Tuesday the new contract of Eduardo Quaresma, who’s agreed a five-year deal with the club.
It’s no surprise to see the Lions protecting their young talents, and that’s why the defender now has a release clause of €45m.
When reporting the news today, Jornal de Notícias reveals that several clubs have been interested in Quaresma, including Liverpool.
That’s why they’ve used a headline saying this is an ‘anti Premier League clause’.
Jornal de Notícias writes that Liverpool are one of the clubs who ‘had been following him attentively’, and Quaresma is ‘aware of the interest from England’.
The 18-year-old made his debut for Sporting this season, and only has two appearances for the first team so far. But his new contract and the fact he has Carlos Gonçalves as his agent makes it clear that big things are expected from him.
Speaking to Sporting’s media team, Quaresma claims he’s not thinking of making a move very soon: “This renewal only shows that the club believe in me and that I believe in the club. We’ll stay together for more years.”
