Ansu Fati has signed his loan deal with Brighton and Hove Albion, but the move was delayed by a last-minutediscussion  between them and Barcelona.

That’s according to journalist Cristina Cubero, who says the two clubs are yet to decide when will be Fati’s official start date for his loan.

The winger has been linked with a late move away from Barcelona throughout this week, having seemingly come to the conclusion he will not feature enough under Xavi this season.

It had initially been reported he would be going to Tottenham before a last-minute swoop from Brighton saw Robeto de Zerbi convince Fati to join them instead.

That is now on the verge of being completed, with Fati and his entourage flying into the UK yesterday afternoon to finalise the deal.

He will be joining from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal without an option to make it permanent and that has all been ratified between the two clubs according to reports.

Cubero now says the reason it has not been announced, despite the player having already signed the loan contract, is that there was still one issue to be resolved between Brighton and Barcelona and that is the date on which the Seagulls officially take over his wages.

Barcelona want that to be backdated to the beginning of June, but Brighton are refusing that as the Spaniard participated in Barcelona’s American tour and has played in games this season.

It’s a final small issue to be worked out and the fact Fati has signed the deal with Brighton should ensure everything is resolved sooner rather than later.
