It’s now hard to find a single Portuguese media outlet who isn’t reporting the Rafa Silva to Wolves story.
After all the newspaper articles we covered last weekend, it’s now Notícias ao Minuto who are publishing their info on the case today.
They ‘confirm’ Wolves are indeed interested in the player, but there are two factors that could make the signing a bit hard for the club.
First thing is that there are other sides who are keen on the midfielder and should be making an approach for him soon, so the Championship club are not alone in the race.
And all of the interested sides are expected to struggle for the signing, because Benfica are still to decide what to do with Rafa Silva.
Notícias ao Minuto claims the Eagles are in doubt about keeping Rafa in the squad or loaning him out, since he wasn’t cheap when signed on a €16m deal last year.
The player is unlikely to force a way out, as a source close to him told the website he ‘is at big club and the employer is going to analyse’. It’s also been claimed that he needs ‘time’ because this could be just a ‘bad moment’.
Now this is clearly showing that leaving Benfica wouldn’t be a good decision for him, but the club obviously has the power to decide on this, and that could make the situation different.
The 24-year-old couldn’t succeed as expected last season, and now with only seven appearances in the current one, it seems things are going the same way.
So unless the player starts to impress, it’s very likely that Benfica will lose their patience at some point, and that’s why it would be a good thing for Wolves to be patient in this case.
Also it’s worth pointing out the whole story started, across several Portuguese newspapers, as what looked like a clear leak putting doubt on the player’s Benfica future. Wolves were then thrown in by just one of the claims, with that idea spreading.
It now seems odd that it’s turned into Wolves pushing the interest and Benfica backing away.
