A week ago we brought claims from Spain which eased any panic at Elland Road over the future of Victor Orta.
With the Leeds United transfer guru having been heavily linked to a job at Deportivo La Coruna, it was reported the Spanish club had chosen Luis Helguera of Las Palmas instead.
But now things are all back open again.
The Galicia edition of Tuesday’s AS reports Orta is back in the running, and one of three named candidates. Helguera is one of the other two, along with Carmelo del Pozo of Levante, a third unnamed option is also under consideration.
Having let things drag on, Deportivo now want to get it all sorted out quickly, and AS say the new man could be unveiled in an announcement on Wednesday or Thursday.
It’s always felt like Depor chasing Orta, rather than the Leeds United man making himself available. With the club now having their relegation to Spain’s second tier confirmed, they’re not a hugely attractive option in comparison to Leeds.
There’s probably more money for transfers at the Yorkshire club, and generally better funds around the place, and a lower likelihood of having to sell important players in the summer window.
