After Maurizio Sarri’s first season at Napoli, he signed Emanuele Giaccherini from Sunderland in 2016.
The midfielder made one start in the league under the current Chelsea manager during his time at the Stadio San Paolo and after struggling for regular minutes, Sarri allowed the 33-year-old to join Chievo on loan for the second half of last season.
Furio Valcareggi, the former Juventus man’s agent, gave an interview to Radio Kiss Kiss, where he admitted his client would have excelled under Carlo Ancelotti, if he had continued at his former club.
“If I’m angry with Sarri? No, he is a friend of mine, but maybe he was not the right technician for Emanuele. Think how much he would play if he was at Napoli,” Italian website Tutto Mercato Web quoted Valcareggi as saying.
Both Giaccherini and Sarri left Napoli earlier in the summer as the player joined Chievo on a permanent deal, while the coach was appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor at Stamford Bridge.
The two have so far enjoyed a good life away from the Naples club as Giaccherini has played over 1000 minutes across 13 appearances in all competitions for Chievo.
