Not so long ago, Angel Gomes was one of the most highly rated youngsters in Manchester United’s youth system.
Big things were expected, and then came doubts about whether he’d be extending his contract with the Premier League side. There’d been a lack of minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the youngster was reportedly frustrated with his situation.
His contract expired at the end of June, and Manchester United announced the 19 year old would be leaving them, after no agreement could be found for a renewal.
First, Gomes was linked with a move to Chelsea, in reports which grew very quickly. Frank Lampard was then asked about the player and appeared to distance his club from a move.
Then came claims about interest coming from Turkey, which was followed by a report stating was Gomes was set to join UD Almeria in Spain.
That was at the beginning of July, and hasn’t happened. Now there’s a claim from France of Lille being keen.
RMC journalist Loic Tanzi reports Lille ‘appreciate his profile’, and could therefore move in for the free signing.
Lille looks a better option than the others.
