Despite being just the loan signing of a youngster, there’s been a lot of coverage of Andreas Pereira’s arrival at Valencia, mostly because he’s moved from Manchester United.
The local media has a story about the player’s form week in and week out, whether it’s to criticse him or to say he’s on the right path.
Outlet AS made an interview with the Brazilian midfielder on October 12th, four days before he was caught speeding. Because of that controversial episode, they were expecting a response from the player before putting the story out, but since Valencia said his social media statement would be all he would say, the Spanish newspaper have now published the interview without any updates.
It turned out to be a very interesting chat, because Pereira gave a few details about his departure from Manchester United and the reasons for it.
First about the possibility to return to the club in January, Pereira said: “When I signed, I knew that this clause existed but now I am calm, focused on Valencia. Nobody called me from Manchester.
“I’m calm, if they want them to go back they’ll call. I want to stay here for the whole season because I’m fit, I feel good… If I had to go back it would be difficult again.
An interesting point here is that when speaking to Marca in September, the player claimed he didn’t know anything about a clause that could send him back to United.
Then Pereira was asked if it’s easier to play for Valencia than for Manchester United: “Yes, I think that here I have more opportunities to play and to improve my football even more.
“I love the style of Spain and I also spoke with Marcelino before coming here. He explained how he played and his style. He asked me how I had been in Spain and he said that he liked the year I had made in Granada. I loved the project and here I am.”
Regarding Mourinho’s quotes saying he was disappointed that Pereira didn’t want to fight for a spot at the club, the young footballer said: “I could see it from a negative side and think he was angry with me. But I’ve always been fine with him. We were always honest with each other.
“I think of the positive: if I wasn’t a good player he would not have said anything in the press, would have let me leave and that’s it. I think he was worried because I left. I have to think about myself now.”
The Manchester United loanee was also quizzed about another year at Valencia: “It’s an option, I don’t know how things will go here. That is future. I won’t say ‘no’ to anything. This option is open for me.”
