Of all the players Leeds United were linked with last summer transfer window, Rodrigo De Paul seemed like the most ambitious.

After all, the Argentine is the star at Udinese these days, by far their most valuable player, and reports that the Serie A side wanted close to €40m for him made a transfer very difficult.

Already spending heavily by that point, it was clear that Leeds weren’t going to splash the cash just for the sake of it, and De Paul stayed put in Udine.

Next summer could be very different, however, as explained by Watford’s director of football, Cristiano Giaretta, who has close tie to the Pozzo family through his role and thus Udinese in the process.

Asked about midfielder, he told TuttoMercatoWeb: “He feels like a leader. He is a captain on and off the pitch and for me he is even among the strongest players in the world. We’ll see what will come in the summer: certainly in front of certain requests, you can’t ignore it, but for now he’s only concentrated on Udinese”.

There’s two points to take from there, with the first being that Leeds’ interest certainly makes sense seeing at how highly rated the player is.

The second being there’s certainly an opening there for any interested club, like the Elland Road residents, but they just have to make sure they fall into that ‘certain request’ category with their offer.
