Amid a rather poor run of form, Arsenal fans have found some excitement in the rumours sending Monchi to the Emirates to potentially be their next director of football.
Various sources in England have stated it could already be a done deal, yet, in Italy, there’s been nothing of the sort.
Sure, the Gunners’ interest has been mentioned, but there’s never been anything suggesting Arsenal have got their man, and Il Tempo explain what’s currently going on within the Serie A side.
According to them, Monchi wants to stay, but, despite that, he might not be there for much longer.
The reason for this is their own poor run of form, with the director of football feeling majorly responsible with the way things are going.
He’s personally backed Eusebio di Francesco, who, barring a ‘cataclysm’, will remain in charge until the end of the season, and the upcoming results will play a major part in his future.
Monchi won’t quit midway through the campaign, but if Roma fail to make Serie A’s top four and fall at the next hurdle in the Champions League, then there’s a chance Monchi will feel he ‘doesn’t deserve’ to be in his role.
If that’s the case, he’ll be ‘the first to ask for a divorce’, leaving him a free agent on the director of football transfer market, which is a-boomin’ these days.
So, perhaps Arsenal fans need to start hoping Roma keep dropping points in the league, which is tough because they have such a likeable social media presence.
And we all know how much the Gunners fanbase love social media.
