Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Rodrigo Gomes has detailed how he is adapting to the Premier League, and his plan to keep growing, both as a player and as a person.
Gomes has been speaking to O Jogo in Portugal about life at Molineux, after joining them in a €15m deal from SC Braga in the summer.
He’s the latest in a long line of Portuguese players to have played for the club in recent years, their special relationship with Jorge Mendes having been used to their advantage on numerous occasions.
It’s been a slow start for him so far, with just three appearances in the Premier League totalling just 116 minutes of action in defeats to Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa. He’s sat on the bench as an unused substitute for the other four games.
That may simply be part of the plan Wolves have drawn up for him, with the Premier League certainly very different from Portuguese football.
Players often need a period of adaptation and Gomes is accepting of that fact, admitting that for him it’s always about constant improvement anyway.
“For me and for many, the Premier League is the best in the world,” he said.
“I have to be honest, it is a little different [from Liga Portugal]. I am fine, always improving, working to be better, growing as a player and a person. I am succeeding in a different context.”
